Oldest Houses In Wombwell Going

A link with the reign of James I. is being broken at Wombwell with the demolition of three cottages at Woodhead Farm, Blacker Hill.

A stone over the door of one of the houses gives the date of erection as 1610.

There are no back doors to the cottages and they have been scheduled as unfit for human habitation.” The fabric is in a good state of preservation.
