Cage Birds
Wombwell and Ecclesfield Societies Shows
Schoolboy’s Success
One of the most successful cage bird shows held in Wombwell in recent years who staged at the Methodist Schools, Park Street, Wombwell, on Saturday under the joint auspices of the Wombwell and Ecclesfield Cage Bird Societies. Among the fanciers there was keen competition and the general public played their part in making the venture a success by attending in large numbers.
The entries numbered 250, Yorkshires topping the list with 113 birds. In bath type and quality the Yorkshires had pride of place, but there were some fine borders and an attractive range of English and foreign birds on view.
Among the British birds was an exceptionally good goldfinch exhibited by Mr. A. Jeavons. This was bred in Wombwell this year. With a linnet which won a first prize in open competition at Sheffield the previous week, Mr. Charles Palmer, an employee of the Wombwell U.D.C., who has an excellent aviary in a Council house garden, was again among the prizes.
