Mile Stone In History Of Wombwell Congregationalism
“The story of the years has not been one of staggering dramatic movements, or of vast increases in numerical strength or financial advance. It has rather been a record of steady, sustained achievement in which the humblest have given as richly as the more exalted”.
This is a passage from a brochure just issued describing the “Birth and Growth of Congregationalism in Wombwell”. The booklet marks the opening of a new chapter in the history of the church consequent upon the disposal of the old church in High Street to a business firm, and the establishment of a new church of modern design on a site opposite the Rectory in Summer Lane, Wombwell.
The opening of the new building will take place next Thursday afternoon, the Moderator, the Rev. W. J. McAdam, M.A., presiding. Mrs. L. F. Harvey, of Bowden, Cheshire, will open the building with a souvenir key.
