Soldier Curate

The Rev Cecil G Shipley who has for the past two years has been assistant curate at St. Barnabas, Sheffield, has been appointed by Canon J. St. Le Blakeney, rector of Wombwell and Rural Dean, as curate at Wombwell to succeed the Rev. V. S. J. Rees, who is going to Rotherham Parish Church.

Mr, Shipley was educated at New College. Harrogate, the Academy, Crieff. and George Watson’s College, Edinburgh. He was formerly in business and to enter St. John’s Hall for theological training he relinquished a commission in the Territorial Army.

He played cricket and rugby for the Hall. He was ordained by the Bishop of Sheffield in 1936. Mr. Shipley has looked forward to experience in a mining parish and will commence his new duties in September.

The rector of Wombwell says in the magazine, “I have known Mr Shipley for many years and it will be a great pleasure magazine, to have him working with me.
