Transfer Fees Exceed “Gates’’ at Wombwell.

At the annual meeting of the Wombwell F.C. last night it was reported that during the past season some £700 had been received in respect of transfers. This was the highest sum ever obtained the club in one season from that source.

Players transferred were: A. Smith, goalkeeper; Balmforth, half-back; and Hatfield. back.

Mr. C. Boocock. the presiding chairman, said that last season was very difficult one from the management point of view. Owing to their late entry into the Midland League they had to take what was left, so to speak, in the matter of fixtures. Nevertheless, they pulled through remarkably well, but next season they hoped to do better, even though they had not signed on many players.

Referring to a suggestion that the, Barnsley F.C. had the first claim to junior players in the Barnsley Football Union, Mr. Boocock said it was high time that they had a union of their own in Wombwell.

The balance-sheet showed that on last season’s working only £2 was lost. Gate receipts totalled £667. and players’ wages amounted to nearly £1,000.

The following were elected directors: Messrs. A. L. Allott, C. Boocock, G. Crowther, E. Newsome, J. Hutchinson, W. Lawrenson, and J. Pashley
