Wombwell Pageant.

The annual May pageant was held at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael’s, Wombwell, yesterday, the event attracting large crowds.

After a short service in the church children paraded the streets and they assembled in the playing field in Stoneyford Road, where an altar with a statue of the Virgin had been erected.

The crowning ceremony was a pretty spectacle. Canon Leteux, of Denaby, gave an address. The May Queen was Annie Barker (7), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Barker, Wombwell, and the cushion beaver Colin Clarke. These two were chosen lot at the Roman Catholic School.
