100 Descendants – Last Surviving Widow of Lundhill Explosion

100 Descendants.

Mrs. Mary Morris, of 2, Thomas Street, Darfield, who, celebrates her 92nd birthday this week, has a life story full of interesting details.

She is a widow, bereaved in the great Lundhill colliery explosion. This catastrophe, in which over 100. men and boys were killed, occurred over 70 years ago.

Mrs. Morris was widowed at the age of 22, and two sons her first marriage are still living. One aged 72 is in California and the second, aged 70, resides at Wombwell. Her second husband was the late Mr. William Morris, for many years bell-ringer at Darfield Parish Church.

Mrs. Morris is a a great-grandmother; has reared 17 children; has at least 100 direct descendants; is one of three sisters who married three brothers; and is the last surviving widow of the Lundhill explosion.

Mrs. Morris was born Tickhill, her maiden name being Mary Shephard
