Wombwell Prisoner of War

Private Arthur Hoyland (York and Lancaster) joined the colours in September 1914, nor three years training went to France.

He took part in the battle of Loos and was taken prisoner on 26th of September 1915, and is now interned at Atldamm Camp.

Previous to the war he was a well-known local boxer, his fighting weight being 9 st 7 lbs.

Many followers of the fistic art will remember his two big fights with Squire Hayley (who is also serving). He has many victories to his credit and is very popular with all classes, as he is quiet, with an unassuming manner, gaining him many friends.

In all his letters he writes in a cheery strain.
