Wombwell Military Medallist
Private Edward Thorpe, whose home is at 14 Hough Lane, Wombwell, and who is at present serving in France with the South Wales Borderers, has received the military medal for conspicuous bravery in the field. His plucky deed is described on the Military Medal parchment thus;
“on 21st of April 1917, during an attack, Private Thorpe showed great gallantry and gallantry. He bombed an enemy machine gun position behind the enemy wife, putting the team and gun out of action, thus preventing many casualties.
