Old Player Managers View
Why Wombwell Fail
Some Hints on Management
Is it possible to make Midland League football pay its way in Wombwell?
Jimmy Dyer, the old Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers, Manchester United, West Ham and Bradford Park Avenue player – now retired from the game, and living at Wombwell – says it is; but speaks with frankness.
He declared emphatically: “Under the present system the Wombwell football Club will never succeed.”
He suggests a thorough scheme of reorganisation and the appointment of a team manager.
Remembering the present position of the club Dyer statement is particularly interesting.
He was born at Blacker Hill, and first play football with Wombwell National School. Mr A.E.Allott, a founder of the Wombwell Football Club, was captain of the side and in the team was the famous Yorkshire cricketer Irving Washington.
