Private G.E.Swift was killed in action on July 1st. The intimations were covered in the following letter received by his mother, Mrs Swift of 28, Bond Street, Wombwell.

“He was climbing over the parapet to rescue his gun, when he was hit by a hostile machine-gun, and died instantly. He was an excellent man at his work, and very brave. He was buried in the wood close by.
