Mr. W. Revill, of Conisboro’, won first prize at Hatfield show on Tuesday for driving in harness.
A public meeting is to be called at Rawmarsh to consider the relief of the Thrybergh unemployed.
Swinton might, with advantage, co-operate with Rawmarsh in this matter.
A receiving order in bankruptcy has been made against Charles Haigh, carter, Church street, Conisboro’.

Mr. A. H. Barnard, the hon. secretary of the Denaby Main Rifle Club, is the winner of the Kilner Challenge Cup.
The Thurnscoe and District Association for the Prosecution of Felons held their annual dinner on Thursday last.
Many of the workmen and families at Thrybergh Hall Colliery, who are out of work, are in need of relief.
The accounts of the Swinton Urban District Council will be audited by the Government auditor on September 6th.
An aged Conisboro’ man was committed to prison for one month at Doncaster, on Saturday, for setting fire to a “pig-stye.”
It is rumoured that the Mexboro’ Co-operative Society have offered their business to the Doncaster Co-operative Society.
The Mexboro’ Hospital Committee gratefully acknowledge the receipt of £2 10s. from the Mexboro’ Old Institute, per Mr. N. Whittaker.
An interesting presentation will shortly be made by his friends to Mr. Amos Thompson, who recently gave up possession of the Montagu Arms Hotel.
Mr. A. Carnegie has supplemented his offer to the Wombwell Church organ fund by another to the extent of half the cost of a new organ at West Melton Church.
The Mexboro’ Co-operative affairs continue to create interest. The public are awaiting the result of the proceedings to be held at the Sheffield County Court on Thursday.
Mr. A. Muir Wilson is recovering from the accident he sustained in the motor smash at Rotherham last Saturday, and will be able to personally conduct his case.
The Rawmarsh Urban District Council are issuing distress warrants for the recovery of £2,400 owing to the Council by the mysterious Mexboro’ and Swinton Tramway Company.
On Rawmarsh Feast Tuesday the “Cinderella” League will take 100 children by waggonette to Wentworth Park, where they will be regaled with tea.
At a meeting of the Rawmarsh Urban District Council, on Wednesday, a resolution was carried authorising the chairman to call a public meeting to consider what shall be done and the best means to adopt to cope with the distress in the parish.
The committee of the Mexboro’ Swinton and District Angling Association is arranging for a cup, value £20, to be fished for in the Dove and Dearne canal, on Saturday, September 24th. See advertisement.
Tenders are invited for the erection of the Fullerton Hospital, Denaby Main. A prospective sketch and particulars of the new institution will be given in our next issue.
Two Swinton residents have died in the Isolation Hospital this week—Miss Ward, suffering from diphtheria, and Mr. Hill, from typhoid.
A deputation from the Swinton Urban District Council visited Huddersfield and Bradford, with the object of gaining information respecting water pumping machinery.
Mr. C. Brumpton desires us to state that he was not present at the meeting of the Barnsley Co-operative Society shareholders on August 8th.
At a meeting of the Swinton Horse and Foal Society, on Wednesday, it was decided to hold their show annually in future, on the first Thursday in July.
A most extraordinary sight was witnessed at Mexboro’ station on Wednesday, when a train steamed into the station with one of the passengers comfortably seated on the top of the coach.

The schedule of the Mexboro’ and District Chrysanthemum Society has just been issued for the fourth annual show, which will be held at the Mexboro’ Market Hall, on Thursday and Friday, November 10th and 11th. There are forty classes for flowers, fruit and vegetables, and substantial prizes are offered in all classes.
Mr. Ernest Howarth, of Mexboro’, a prominent member of the Orpheus Glee Society, who has been very successful as an agent for the last 18 months for the British Workman’s Assurance Company, has now been promoted to assistant superintendent for the Mexboro’ district, under Mr. Whitehead, in succession to Mr. H. S. Taylor, who has been removed to Chapeltown.
Rapid progress is being made with the new Wesleyan Church at Mexborough. The windows, which are leaded, are from pretty designs in Cathedral glass. A floral bazaar is to be opened on Wednesday, December 7th, and Sept. 1st, in aid of the building fund. Will all friends please make a note of the alteration of date. It is being held a week earlier than intended.
