International Reputation.

Passing through Leeds towards Harrogate you notice a striking building on the right as you leave the city, the new Jewish synagogue. I have recently seen a brochure explaining its remarkable architectural features which I recently had the opportunity of scanning.  There is probably not another structure like it in the country.  It is built to a style distinctly not English and must have cost an enormous sum.

But the fact about this temple which most interests Wombwell people is that it was designed and constructed by a Wombwell man, Mr. J. Stanley Wright., Chapeltown, Leeds, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wright, 165, Barnsley Road, Wombwell.

As an architect Mr. Wright is gaining an international reputation. Pick up almost any trade journal or illustrated magazine on the higher branches of architecture and the construction of public buildings and the odds are you will find Mr. Wright’s name mentioned.  He is playing an important part in the propagation of new ideas in building principles. The first really big job to his designs was the construction of the new wing embodying the Princess Mary ward at Leeds Infirmary. He has since had important commissions in all parts of the country.

He was entrusted with alterations at Goldsborough Hall when the Princess Royal was in residence, and recently had designs accepted for an important memorial at Brechin, Scotland, with many architects in competition. But the Jewish Synagogue mentioned is his outstanding work.
