Double Summer Time comes to an end this week-end. Clocks should be put back one hour on Saturday night.

The big Montagu Hospital Garden Show is to be held on Friday and Saturday, August 20th and 21st, at the Adwick Road Modern School, Mexborough.

Wombwell and Darfield A.T.C. Squadron achieved a notable feat on Saturday, when at York they won the N.E. Command Athletic Championship for A.T.C. units in the face of strong competition.

Doncaster Rovers, for the year ending May 31st last, made a profit of £570, which, after charges for depreciation, tax, war damage contribution and provision of £400 for deferred repairs, is reduced to £20.

Captain Hedley Verity, the Yorkshire and England cricketer, has been reported missing on active service. Joining up soon after the outbreak of war he soon gained a commission in the Green Howards.

Mr. L. R. Honeywill, Secretary and a Director of Manvers Main Collieries, Ltd., leaves Manvers this week and at the end of August is to take up an appointment with the Butterley Co., Ltd., who have extensive colliery and engineering undertakings in the Midlands.

A proposal that the General Council of the T.U.C. should submit a full report on the advisability of extending to the post-war period such war-time legislation and regulations as are considered to be of benefit to the workers, will be brought forward by the Mineworkers’ Federation at the annual Trades Union Congress which opens at Southport on September 6th.

In accordance with the desire of the King, Friday, September 3rd, the fourth anniversary of the outbreak of war, is to be observed as a National Day of Prayer and Dedication.

Extra toys and children’s games will be supplied by manufacturers for Christmas under a general licence issued by the Board of Trade under the Limitation of Supplies Order.

Lord Halifax, British Ambassador in Washington, arrived in England on Wednesday by air, on a vacation, and will visit for consultations, which will last about six or eight weeks. Lord Halifax arrived by train at Victoria, London, on Wednesday night, accompanied by Lady Halifax and his son, who was assisted to a bath chair. Grace Fields crossed in the same plane with him.
