A property owners’ protection association is being formed at Wombwell.
The annual dinner of the Wath Cricket and Athletic Club was held on Thursday evening.
“Dante’s Inferno,” the special film, is to be exhibited at the Mexboro’ Empire Palace next week.
The members of the Swinton Cricket Club will hold their annual general meeting on Tuesday evening.
Alderman J. H. Watson, J.P., of Mexboro’, has been a member of the West Riding Council for 21 years.
There was a large and representative gathering at the funeral of Mr. Kilner Bateson, of Conisboro’, on Saturday.
The Mexboro’ Conservatives held their annual meeting on Wednesday evening. Mr. Mark Illsley was appointed president.
Mexboro’ Council have decided to appoint a Sanitary Inspector, and to advertise for a Health Visitor to succeed Miss Montagu.
The West Riding Electric Theatres, Ltd., of which Mr. Dent is managing director, have taken over the controlling Mexboro’ Hippodrome.
Mexboro’ has now definitely decided to apply to the Local Government Board for a loan of £2,500 for the erection of public baths.
The Wombwell gas undertaking last year contributed £1,750 to the relief of the general district rates. The price of gas at Wombwell is 3s. 9d. per 1000.
A fancy dress ball (strictly by invitation) is to be held in the Central Hall, West Street, Mexboro’, on Tuesday week, and promises to be highly successful.
Mexboro’ and Conisboro’ Bands are holding high-class evening concerts in the Empire Palace on Sunday, March 2nd. An excellent programme has been arranged.
It is stated that fresh arrangements will be made shortly for the smoother working of the Insurance Act, in relation both to the medical profession and the insured public.
Interesting presentations were made at Great Houghton on Monday evening to the Rev. J. Perry, curate-in-charge for six years, who has now been appointed vicar of Burghwallis.
Mutual congratulations were exchanged between the shareholders and the directors of the Swinton and Mexboro’ Gas Company at the final meeting of the shareholders on Thursday afternoon.
The annual meeting of the Mexboro’ Montagu Hospital will be held on Friday evening next. A large and representative meeting is hoped for, as business of an important character will be discussed.
Dr. L. A. Wilson, who returned with Capt. Scott’s party whilst exploring from the South Pole, was a brother of Mr. E. L. Wilson, estate agent to Mr. Warde-Aldam, of Hooton Pagnell Hall.
The late Mr. Frederick Turner, of Wath Farm, was well-known as a successful agriculturalist throughout South Yorkshire, and his death is keenly regretted, especially among farmers in the district.
The late Mrs. Kelley, of Danford House, Wath-on-Dearne, who passed away at Ilkley on Saturday, was responsible for much philanthropic work in the Wath district, and her demise is deeply regretted.
Some curious objections were raised by a Wombwell ratepayer at the Local Government Board Inquiry into the proposal of the Wombwell Council to borrow further money for the extension of the gas works.
Swinton Churchpeople have decided to proceed immediately with the completion of the East Window in St. Margaret’s Church, and the erection of a Church Hall. The two schemes will cost approximately £475.
Only four members of the Conisboro’ Parish Council attended the monthly meeting on Wednesday. Five members are required to form a quorum, and the business of the meeting could not be proceeded with.
The Sons of Temperance are holding special services in the Primitive Methodist Church, Mexboro’, on Sunday morning and evening, and in the afternoon there is to be an open-air service in connection with the Mexboro’ Band of Hope. On Monday there is a public meeting at which some lantern presentations will be made.
