Wombwell Main v. Conisborough
These teams met at Wombwell Main on Saturday. The home captain won the toss, and sent in Sykes and Radford to the bowling of Urch and Bateson. The first-named bowled a maiden over.
In the second over Sykes sent Bateson to boundary for four, while in the third over Radford got a boundary hit from Urch for a like number, also a single, Sykes scoring two, when Radford was caught by Bateson off Urch (1 for 11). Hinchliffe replaced him, and after adding two, H. Sykes played on to the wicket off Bateson. Hargate succeeded him, and with Hinchliffe put on three more runs, when the latter was bowled by Urch (3 for 16).
F. Schofield joined Hargate, and together they raised the score to 26, when the former was nicely caught by Longbottom off Bateson. W. Schofield took his place. Ogley going on vice Urch with the ball, and Schofield was bowled by his first delivery.
S. Schofield then took the bat, and with Hargate brought the score up to 39, when Schofield was bowled by Sharp after scoring two, six wickets being down for 39. Thomas replaced S. Schofield, after which the score was brought up to 45, and then Hargate, who had made 21, was bowled by Ogley.
Lingard succeeded him, and hit the first ball to the boundary from Sharp, and together put on seven more runs before Sharp clean bowled Thomas. Lingard was badly run out at 61. Davis and Harrison brought the score to 66, when the former was caught by Booth.
H. H. and H. J. Sharp went in first for Conisborough, and kept together until 22 runs had been scored, the former batsman being run out. Keys then joined H. J. Sharp, and the score was steadily raised, Keys being at length caught by Davis. Bateson and Longbottom fell with the score but slightly increased, and H. J. Sharp was directly afterwards stumped by D. Thomas, after compiling a useful 35.
The whole of the ten wickets fell for 55. Sharp took 3 wickets for 10 runs, and Bateson 3 for 11 for Conisborough; S. Schofield took 5 wickets for 12 runs, and Lingard 3 for 12 for Wombwell Main.
