Flooding
The Don and Dearne have overflowed and flooded a large tract of land. The highways to several adjacent hamlets are submerged, and vehicular and pedestrian traffic is in some places altogether impracticable. In some parts of the district the water stands to a depth of ten feet on the highway in consequence of the subsidence of the land through colliery operations.
In Swinton, Wath, Kilnhurst, Melton, Adwick, and Conisborough much water is also out, hundreds of acres being inundated; and at the former place the operations at the new waterworks have had to cease for the present.
