Dancing Sisters
Talented Wombwell Girls
Miss Moreen Burrows (13), daughter of Mr. T. H. Burrows, J.P., and Mrs. Burrows, of Leyland House, Wombwell, is following in the footsteps of her sister, Miss Mavis Burrows, as a talented dancer. At Doncaster,
a fortnight ago, she and her partner, Derek Thorley, won a bronze medal for ballroom dancing, and at Barnsley Festival last week she was a member of a troupe which won a gold medal, the other members of the quartet being Jean White, Lona Wright and Frank Ward. She has now won 19 certificates in all for dancing.
Miss Mavis Burrows (17), was formerly a pupil of Miss D. Bullas, and has now gone to a school of dancing and dramatic art at Liverpool to train for film work and to perfect her technique. She has already had seven months’ experience on the professional stage with a variety company. As
a pupil of Miss Bullas, she qualified B.A.T.D. for both ballroom and ballet dancing. has secured the qualification R.A.D., and has been accepted a member of the International Society of Teachers of Dancing. In all she has gained 19 medals and 30 certificates of various types of dancing. She has now been given a small part in the play “Little Women.”
Though still a pupil at Wombwell Modern School, Miss Moreen Burrows has taken over the dance instruction class which her sister ran at Wombwell before she went to Liverpool. Both sisters are well-known in local dance halls and have devoted their talent largely to charitable effort.
