Good Season Expected

At the annual meeting of Mitchell Main Cricket Club, officials elected were:

President, Mr S.S. Thornhill (agent at Mitchell and Darfield Main)

Vice President, Messrs A Brooks, G.W.Chambers, C.W.R. Trew, B. Beevers, F.E. Gregory, C.E. Fisher, J.B. Graham, J.E.Tredgold, H.M. Gregson A.E. Bleasdale, L Robinson, W.E. Clegg, W Belshaw, G.E. Crowther and W.E. Moderio ; secretary Mr J.C. Smith.

The Secretary (Mr. J. C. Smith) said last season was very successful from the competitive standpoint, the club having again won the South Yorkshire League merit cup and Barnsley Section for the second year in succession. Their players took first four places in league batting averages as follows: J. Senior, average 37.5: J. Wroe, average 35.6; A. Moore, average 33.5; R. Cooling, average 29.2. The same applied to the bowling averages: J. Wroe, average 4.63; J. Senior average 7.52. the team played 14 matches, won 10 and drew four.

They also had two good Sunday matches (Wombwell Foundry and Rest of the League) winning both. The proceeds of these were devoted to the Beckett Hospital, Barnsley.

Mr Smith said they hoped to play good deal of Sunday cricket this season, the proceeds going to charities. They were trying to keep the Mitchell Main cricket tradition alive by running the “Kilner” Cup Knock-out competition, and a works knock-out. All the old players were available.
