Wedding – Land & Ashwood
On Saturday, at Darfield Parish Church, the marriage took place of Pilot Officer Eric Ashwood, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Ashwood, Pond House, Billingley, to Miss Grace Land, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Land, 145, Blythe Street, Wombwell. The service was choral, organist being Mrs. E. Jones (Carnarvon), friend of the bridegroom, and Miss Jean Flintham, of Billingley, sang “I’ll Walk Beside You.” The Rev. H. Wallwork officiated.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of needlerun lace over ivory taffeta, the skirt of which formed a train on which were embossed camellias. She wore gold R.A.F. wings. Her long plain net veil was surmounted by a coronet of love birds, and she carried white carnations.
In attendance were Miss Mary Cutts and Miss Terry Summers, who wore white net gowns over apple green taffeta, ornamented with ruching of lovers’ knots and headdresses of ostrich plumes in shell pink. They carried pale pink carnations and wore brooches and necklaces, the gifts of the bridegroom.
Mr. A. Ashwood was best man, as proxy for Spr. S. Ashwood, the bridegroom’s brother (serving in the Forces in Italy) and Mr. D. Crossland was groomsman.
