Prisoners’ Band

It does not seem to be “all work and no play” in German prison camps, for a picture of a band formed by the prisoners of Stalag XXA (Poland), which includes Jock Quelch, Johnny  Horns, Vic Gosling, Eric Tabor, Ginger Mitchell,  Nobby Bateman and Frank Pollard. Jack Williamson and J. Frogley, was sent to Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Tabor of Wath Wood Road, Wath, by their son, Eric (23) a former member of Wath Parish Church Choir, who can play almost any musical instrument ‘and is very fond of classical music.

His parents were surprised when, in a letter, he told them he was the band’s piano-accordionist. The men have bought their instruments with money earned while working in camp.

Eric was called up in October, 1939 and taken prisoner at Dunkirk. His parents hear from him fairly regularly and Eric says he receives a Red Cross parcel every week. Among the South Yorkshire men he has met at the prison camp is Leslie Davies, a Bramptonian.
