Newcomers Give Wath A Shock

Smart Win by Mitchell Main

Wath  60  Mitchell Main 61 for 6

Mitchell Main, the newcomers to the Yorkshire Council, made an impressive debut on Saturday by a decisive victory over Wath. This was the club’s first match of the season. The match was played under ideal conditions before an encouraging “gate.”

Wath was first to bat and quickly lost wickets before the bowling of Utting, Swift and Evans. Utting’s average was 5 for 11, Swift took 2 for 1 and Evans 2 for 25. Play was slow for the first thirty minutes after which Broadhead was caught by Smith when the score stood at 25. Evans and Utting were responsible for the first six wickets, the first half of the Wath team being dismissed for 45. Goodall, Pearce, Shaw and Stancey only managed to get two runs among them, the side being out for 60.

Kilner and Fieldhouse opened for Mitchell the latter knocking up by 23 in about thirty minutes. He was dismissed by Hargreaves, who took 4 for 13. Holliday was clean bowled when he had only scored 1. Grieg was dismissed without having scored. Mitchell passed the Wath score for the loss of 6 wickets.
