Was In Hong Kong

Wombwell Man Held Government Post

Nearly eight months have elapsed since news was received of Mr. George Francis Jeavons (29) unmarried son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Jeavons, of 53, Blythe Street, Wombwell, who has been employed as Inspector of Works at Hong-Kong. This was a Government appointment.

Mr. Jeavons is an old boy of John Street Council School, Wombwell, after leaving which he was employed as apprentice bricklayer by Messrs. W. Johnson and Sons.

Eight years ago he left to take a post as foreman bricklayer in London, and in order to secure the appointment at Hong-Kong he had to pass examinations at Birmingham. In his last latter home, written last October, he assured his parents that he was in good health and hoped to be home before long for a short break. No mention was made of any impending trouble. He said he had been employed on a constructional job and had managed at great pains to acquire a working knowledge of Chinese.

His parents have made enquiries of the British Red Cross organisation and are anxiously awaiting news.
