Well Deserved Win Over Denaby

Denaby’s home defeat at the hands of Mitchell Main, newcomers to the League, and who had previously accounted for Wath, was mainly due to batting failures, especially in the “tail.” After Tibbles Greenwood and Wainwright had left, only Wright showed confidence in scoring a useful 21. Greenwood batted 52 runs for 9. Traps were set for the Denaby batsman for 9 of them fell to catches. The visitors deserved their victory if only for their excellent fielding. Mitchell were rather fortunate to have such good batsmen as Fieldhouse, Halliday, Grieg and Senior all reaching double figures, as the others made a poor show. Halliday in scoring a faultless 54 took advantage of what appeared to be unnecessary bowling changes by the Denaby captain. Wild had the best bowling figures for Denaby, taking 5 for 43, while Robinson took 4 for 31. Utting for Mitchell had 5 for 10 and Swift 3 for 8.
