Wombwell Airman Missing
Reported missing is Sergeant Gordon Dakin Pepper, R.A.F. wireless operator, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pepper, 168. Barnsley the Road. Wombwell, official notification to that effect having been received by his wife, who at present is residing with her parents at the Clarkson Street, Worsborough Dale.
Sergt. Pepper, who was married two years ago and has been the R.A.F. over two years, had made many flights over enemy territory.
On his visits home he spoke with enthusiasm of his work and of the fine fellows with whom he was associated.
In connection with the report that he is missing, a communication from an officer of the unit to which he was attached stated that he had been in communication throughout, his last message stating that they were about to bale out, so it was reasonable to think they would be prisoners.
The officer added that Sergt. Pepper had always been a very bright and cheerful member of their unit and his presence among them will be missed.
Prior to joining Sergt. Pepper was for seven years employed at the Worsbrough Dale, branch of the B.B.C.S.
His brother Roy is with the Forces in the Middle East.
