Arrangements are being made to hold the Mexborough Cricket Club Ball on Thursday, January 7th.

The Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners have made their first prosecution of an unlicensed ‘bus owner in South Yorkshire.

The epidemic of fires at Wombwell continued this week and included the gutting of two houses on one of the Council estates.

The Mexborough Secondary School Old Students’ Association’s Christmas re-union is to be held in the school on December 23rd.

Mr. Tom Williams, M.P., spoke’ for the first time from the Front Opposition Bench last Thursday, when he wound up the debate on the Address.

To facilitate Christmas shopping, early closing regulations are to be suspended from Saturday, December 19th, to Thursday, December 24th, both inclusive.

A record draw was made during the afternoon shift at Denaby Main on Monday, when approximately 2,600 tubs or 1,322 tons of coal were brought up No. 2 shaft in 7 ½  hours.

Amy Johnson’s visit to Mexborough on November 30th is arousing interest and tickets are being readily disposed of. Miss Johnson is lecturing this week in South Wales.

The Medical Officer of Swinton, Dr. Hatherley, and Mrs. Hatherley have suffered a bereavement this week by the death of their only son, Mr. Sidney Hatherley, and many expression of sympathy are being extended to the family.

The Rev C. P. Shaw, who was Vicar of Goldthorpe from 1916 to 1919, has broken down in health and accordingly has resigned the vicarage of St. Mary’s Magdalene, Paddington, and his position as Superior General of the Ccnfraternity of the Blessed Sacrament.

Mr. Albert E. Bell, fornierly of Crookes, Sheffield, who advertised in this paper last week for news of three cousins who lived in Swinton 25 years ago, has already received letters from each of them. One is in Middlesborough, another in Shipley, and a third is still in Swinton. We offer this as interesting and convincing proof of the searching and extensive nature of our circulation.

The winner of the Majority Competition for the Don Valley election is Mr. W. A. Akester, Park Road, Conisborough, who guessed 8,000 majority for Mr. T. Williams
