In All Services

Out of a family of nine children (five sons and three daughters), Mr. and Mrs. George Edward Fowler, of 56, Hough Lane, Wombwell, have three sons with the Forces.

One is in the Royal Artillery, another in the Navy, and the third in the Royal Air Force.

All three are ex-Scouts of the Wombwell Troop, in which the eldest, Fred Fowler, was A.S.M.

Bombardier Fred Fowler attended King’s Road School, Wombwell, and later became a member of the surveying staff at Wombwell Main Colliery. He later joined the surveying staff of the West Riding County Council at Wakefield, and enlisted in the Territorials. He now boasts a couple of stripes. He was married last month to Miss Winifred Seddon, of Mitchell Main. He is 24.

John and Harry Fowler are 21 years old twins. Formerly a fitter at Wombwell Main Colliery, John joined the Navy in December, 1938, and has been East. He was formerly a member of Wombwell Amateur Operatic Society, and Wombwell Swimming Club, and played football for New Guinea.

Harry Fowler has had three years in the R.A.F., and is now a leading aircraftsman. For the past twelve months he had been serving “East of Suez.” Formerly employed as a printer, he played football for local clubs and is now indulging his liking for the game in the Air Force.

Fred Fowler was formerly a member of Wombwell Congregational Church, and John and Harry were members of Wombwell Parish Church. All write cheerful letters home.
