A Growing District
The announcement of Dr. Burman, Medical Officer of Health for Wath, that the population of that progressive township is over twelve thousand, gives us pause.
Surely there are very few districts in Yorkshire which are so commercially important and congested in population.
Within a radius of a few miles we have Mexboro and Swinton, with a population of fourteen thousand each; Denaby and Conisboro’, with something like fifteen thousand; Wath, with twelve thousand; Wombwell and Rawmarsh, with sixteen thousand each; Bolton and Goldthorpe. with eight thousand, and Thurnscoe, with another four thousand.
This small but dense district can easily be linked up and put into communication, and made a power in the land. At present it is split up and divided, by varying local authorities, with different ideas.
All these things make us think furiously.
