Taste for Good Music

A prominent figure in local musical circles Mr. S. Smith. Mr. Smith founded the well-known John st. Schoolboys’ Choir, is choirmaster of the Wombwell Congregational Church and tutor of a singing class for juveniles held at Wombwell under the auspices of the Barnsley Co-operative Society.

In this class there are over sixty pupils. Under Mr. Smith’s direction Handel’s “The Messiah” is to be given at the Wombwell Congregational Church this Christmas. No single person has done more than Mr. Smith to encourage the taste for good music in Wombwell. He is a member of the staff of the John Street Council School.
