Allotment Holders Assistance

December 1929

Mexborough and Swinton Times December 27, 1929

Allotments gardeners in the Wombwell district will be interested to know that arrangements have again been made jointly by the Society of Friends and under the auspices of the Coalfields Distress Fund for the assistance of allotment and cottage gardeners in the distressed areas.

Eventually a scheme will be put into operation for the distribution of seeds and plants but at the moment the local committee are concentrating on the distribution of lime and other commodities necessary to put gardens in good health and heart in readiness for the growing season.

The chief local organisers are Mr. William Murphy jun. (secretary), 63, Myers Street, Wombwell, to whom communications and application for assistance should be addressed, and Mr. William Murphy sen., 94, Hough Lane.

These two are secretaries respectively of the Barnsley Road and Wombwell Main Allotment Gardeners’ Societies respectively.
