Boxing Tournament at Wombwell.
There was a very good attendance at the Empire, Wombwell, yesterday, to witness a boxing tournament promoted by Mr. Bridgewater, who was assisted by Ben Stevenson, the well-known Wombwell welter-weight.
The principal bout was a 15-rounds content between Tommy Hughes, Blackburn, and George Mapplebeck, West Melton. Mapplebeck fouled his opponent in the seventh round, Hughes thus gaining the verdict.
Young Jackson, Wombwell, beat George Ramsey, Hoyland, points, after six rounds, and in a similar contest Harry Leach, Woodlands, gained the decision over Digger Cosgrave, Grimetborpe.
Frank Turner, Goldtnorpe, knocked out Bob Hartoll, Sheffield, in the second round.
In a ten rounds contest Alf. Senior, Doncaster, beat Billy Royds, Barnsley, on points.
