Brothers In Arms
Wombwell has a family from which three sons have gone up to the colours.
Two are sergeants in an anti-aircraft battery, the other is a signaller. All are sons of the late Mrs. Jones, formerly of 45, Littlefield Lane, Wombwell, whose husband, the late Company Sergeant-Major Frederick William Jones, was a campaigner of the Egyptian War, the Boer War and the Great War.
The brothers are Sergeant Henry Wolsey (45), of 189, Barnsley Road, Wombwell; Sergeant Tom Jones (27), 31, Melville Street, Wombwell, and Signaller Ernest Jones (30), 53, Littlefield Lane, Wombwell.
A sister, Miss Mary Jones (25), is a nurse on the staff of the White Rose County Hospital, Wakefield. Sergeant Wolsey, who has for several years been secretary of the Wombwell branch of the British Legion, has a son who is serving in an anti-aircraft battery. He is Harry Wolsey (19). Sergeant Wol-sey’s wife is an active member of the Wombwell Nursing Division.
Sergeant Wolsey, joined the Territorials at a very early age, and as such was called up at the outbreak of the Great War and went to France in 1915 with the 5th York and Lancasters.
Sergeant Tom Jones, who married a daughter of Mr. C. Boocock, a member of the Wombwell U.D.C., has been in the Territorials about ten years.
Sergeant Wolsey and his son worked at Darfield Main, Tom was in the offices at Cortonwood, and Ernest worked as a cook in a London hotel. The duties of secretary of the Wombwell branch of the British Legion are being carried out temporarily by Mr. J. W. Saddler.
