Wombwell British Legion Secretary

A prominent figure in the ex-Service men’ movement at Wombwell is Mr. W. Hinchcliff, 11, Elliott’s Avenue, who was appointed last week as secretary of the Wombwell branch of the British Legion.

Mr. Hinchliff has been a worker for the cause for thirteen years. He joined the ex-Service Men’s Federation as early as 1916 when in hospital at Leeds with war wounds.

On demobilisation he threw himself wholeheartedly into the work catering for the needs of ex-Service men and their dependents, and has held official position in the Wombwell branch of the British Legion since 1921. He has held practically every office in the branch from that of Chairman downward, and it is present local representative of the United Services Fund, in which connection he has rendered valuable service of a practical character.

Mr.Hinchliff has been employed as a deputy at Dearne Valley Colliery for fifteen years and is secretary of the Dearne Valley Branch of the Deputies’ Association. He will have’ special responsibilities in connection with the “Remembrance” and ‘Poppy Day” celebrations at Wombwell
