Mexborough and Swinton Times November 1, 1929
The past few years have witnessed a revival of interest in nursing work in Wombwell, numerically and also in both equipment and personal efficiency, the Wombwell Nursing Division will compete favourably with any other division in the West Riding.
Glowing tributes to their work and skill were paid at the annual inspection by General Sandys at Wombwell on Tuesday night.
Behind all this there is a personality and that personality is Commandant Mrs E. Purdie (picture), the wife of D J Purdie.
Mrs Purdie has lived in Wombwell something like ten years, and during the whole of that time she has devoted her spare time almost exclusively to ambulance work.
